For the UK self-employed

See the deductions
you're not claiming.

Your bank sees "Amazon, £60". Catalejo reads the receipt line by line, so it knows £29 was a deductible monitor and £31 was a personal order. Import your bank, and it finds the money you're leaving on the table before you file Self Assessment.

How it works

From bank export to filing-ready, in three steps

STEP 1

Import your spending

Upload a bank statement or snap your receipts, up to 15 at once. No manual typing.

STEP 2

We read every line

Each transaction is checked against the actual HMRC rules by a verified engine, not an AI guess.

STEP 3

See it, then file it

Get the number you're missing, then export a filing-ready Self Assessment pack for you or your accountant.

The honest question

Why Catalejo, and not just ask an AI?

Fair question. You could paste a receipt into a chatbot right now. Here is the honest difference, and why the paid version pays for itself.

Just asking a chatbot
  • You retype your figures every time. It forgets the moment you close the tab.
  • It guesses at tax rules, and sometimes invents them, with total confidence.
  • It can't read a shoebox of receipt photos or your bank export.
  • At filing time you are copy-pasting from a chat window.
  • You have to remember every deadline yourself.
Catalejo
  • Reads your receipts and bank line by line, and remembers the whole year.
  • Every figure comes from a verified engine using the actual HMRC and Hacienda rules, not a guess.
  • Scans 15 receipts at once, matches tax IDs, converts currencies at the live rate.
  • Exports a clean, filing-ready pack your accountant will actually accept.
  • Watches your tax calendar and tells you what is due, when.

A general AI is a clever friend with no memory. Catalejo is a system that holds your money.

We are software, not your accountant, and we say so. Catalejo shows its workings, flags anything that needs a human, and never invents a number to look clever. Confirm the final figures with your accountant before you file.

Pricing

Your MTD software files. It doesn't find.

Keep whatever you use to submit to HMRC. Catalejo is the other half: it reads your spending line by line and shows you what you're not claiming. Most people only need that once a year, so the report is the main way to buy it.

Worth it if you're filing quarterly under MTD and want the number kept current.

Catalejo is not HMRC-recognised and does not submit anything to HMRC. It is not MTD filing software and we will not pretend otherwise. Keep whatever you file with. This is the part that works out what you can claim in the first place.

Questions

The honest answers

What can I actually deduct as a UK sole trader?

HMRC lets you deduct costs incurred 'wholly and exclusively' for your trade: software and subscriptions, business travel, tools and equipment, a share of your home office and phone, professional fees, and more. Catalejo reads each transaction and flags the ones you can claim, with the reason. You still decide what's genuinely business.

Is this HMRC-recognised software? Can I file through it?

No, and we won't pretend otherwise. Catalejo organises your spending, finds deductions, and produces a clean pack. It gives you estimates to work from, not a submission. You file through HMRC or your accountant. It is not MTD filing software.

Do I still need an accountant?

If you use one, Catalejo does the part they charge you for by the hour: sorting receipts and coding expenses. You hand them a clean, filing-ready pack instead of a shoebox, so you pay them for the filing, not the data entry. If you file yourself, it gives you the organised numbers to enter.

How is this different from just asking ChatGPT?

A general chatbot has no memory of your ledger and guesses at tax rules. Catalejo holds your whole year, reads every line, and computes deductions from a verified engine so the numbers are defensible. See the 'Why pay' section above for the full comparison.
